Kalalgia

Kalalgia (kuh-LAL-jee-uh) is an invented term comprising the Greek words kalos (beauty) and algos (ache/pain). It represents an ache that contains its own sense of beauty. It is not beauty that exists despite the wound, but rather the kind of beauty that makes healing a wound possible.

Kalalgia represents the bittersweet, wistful sense of imperfection that is both lovely and damaged. Think of Venus de Milo without her arms, or the relieved disappointment when leaving a toxic relationship or work situation. There is sadness but also hope, and this music fills the cracks between those two emotional states.

The four tracks (now available on Bandcamp) were recorded live to 8-track using fake voices, pianos, customized electronics, and a very authentic Mellotron sampler.
