The Turing test is used to determine the plausibility of computer-generated language. To pass, a program must converse with a human well enough to convince them that they’re interacting with another person. Taken with that lens, the Turing test is fundamentally about deception; it measures not the intelligence of a system, but rather the gullibility of the human using it.
